Keeping Our Facility Clean, Safe and Enriching for Every Guest

At Midtown Pet Centre, we take pride in providing a spotless, safe and enriching environment for every pet in our care. From daily cleaning routines to ongoing upgrades and enrichment programs, our goal is to create a place where your pets feel comfortable, happy and well looked after.

Daily Care and Hygiene

Every dog’s room is swept, mopped and disinfected daily with hospital-grade cleaning products. Bedding is washed and replaced, water bowls are refreshed, and even the glass doors on each room are polished and disinfected. Maintaining a clean and healthy space for our furry guests is always our top priority.

Like many Gold Coast businesses, the extreme weather of 2025 presented us with some challenges. The unusually wet season and Cyclone Alfred created issues with mould in certain parts of the facility. While this was disappointing, we acted quickly, scheduling a professional treatment program in July.

To minimise disruption we carried out the work during the quieter post-holiday period, closing sections of the kennels in stages. By the end of July, the full program was complete and our entire facility was officially mould-free. We’ve also engaged the same team to return after each school holiday period for preventative treatments, ensuring the centre remains in immaculate condition.

Facility Upgrades and Maintenance

We’re constantly investing in improvements to make Midtown Pet Centre the very best it can be. Already this year, we’ve spent $40,000 upgrading the doors in our large-dog rotunda rooms. The new aluminium and glass doors are not only strong and secure, but they also allow us to customise each room with “Full view”, “Half-view” or “No view” options, perfect for catering to each dog’s individual personality and comfort level.

Other recent upgrades include:

  • Higher fencing in one of our play areas for added safety for both large and small breeds
  • New LED lighting in the small breeds kennelling area
  • Servicing our air conditioning units for consistent comfort
  • Plumbing works to improve drainage in the main exercise yard

And we’re not stopping there. Over the next 12 months, we’ll be:

  • Installing artificial grass and shade panels in the cat runs
  • Repainting the rotunda rooms
  • Pouring a brand new epoxy-resin floor in the rotunda area

Enrichment: More Than Just Playtime

Cleanliness and safety are essential, but so is enrichment. At Midtown Pet Centre, we go above and beyond to keep our guests active, stimulated and happy.

Throughout the day, dogs enjoy a mix of on-lead walks and off-lead playtime. Our main exercise yard operates all day long, with carefully chosen play-groups rotating through. On top of this, our team devotes around 7.5 staff hours each day to on-lead walks—ensuring every dog gets plenty of fresh air and one-on-one time.

We also have a smaller off-lead courtyard connected to an indoor chill-out room with comfy day beds. It’s perfect for pups to enjoy a “day out” away from their kennels.

Unlike many kennels that charge extra for playtime or walks, we include all this exercise and enrichment at no extra cost. We believe every guest deserves the best possible experience while staying with us.

Most importantly, our team is passionate about building strong, positive relationships with every animal in our care. From delivering meals to administering medication or simply stopping in for a pat, our staff make a conscious effort to engage with pets by name, maintain eye contact, offer reassurance, and provide affection. It’s these small, meaningful moments that create a true home-away-from-home feeling for your pets.
